Wild Minds Weekly: What will your life look like in 5 years?
Hello beautiful people,
We're often driven in one direction because we're running away from an unbearable situation. That's being driven by fear.
Fear is useful. That's what gets you out of bad situations - very few people buy land and start farming because they're thrilled about the way society is heading. But you'll agree that bring driven by fear is not a very pleasant way to live out the rest of your life.
There is a more positive path, one guided by enthusiasm instead.
“A coherent life is one lived in such a way that you can clearly connect the dots between three things: who you are, what you believe, what you are doing.” – Bill Burnett, author of Designing Your Life.
I recently came across this idea of The Odyssey Plan, which is basically a method for figuring out what the hell to do with your life.
What would your life look like in 5 years if you carried on in your current path?
Is that where you want to end up?
I asked myself those questions 2 years ago as I finished university.
Then I bought a van and have lived in it off-grid for the last two years (that's how I got involved with Wild Minds Community).
I'm now asking myself those same questions as I prepare to take another leap of faith.
There's a saying that goes, “No plan survives first contact with reality.”
If you're not a newborn baby, you'll know this is true. But, a plan still helps you take the first steps.
I didn't think this is where I would be 2 years after finishing university, but it definitely feels like I'm headed in the right direction.
So how do you make an Odyssey Plan?
Very briefly, you answer 3 questions.
- Write out, in detail, what your life would look like 5 years from now if you continued down your current path.
- Write out, in detail, what your life would look like 5 years from now if you took a completely different path.
- Write out, in detail, what your life would look like 5 years from now if money and social obligations were irrelevant.
When I say in detail, I mean in detail. What would your day to day look like with each of these options?
Once you've done that, ask yourself, which path triggers the most excitement?
Perhaps you should consider taking that one.
Hopefully you found that helpful and inspiring.
To your freedom and independence,
PS. If the path that excites you the most is building a life of independence from the mainstream system, then here are some ways we can help.

This week in One Tree Farm
This week is full of moments of reverence as more livestock and wild game are respectfully processed in an incredible educational opportunity for the community.
Monday was the first Goose processing session of the week.
Those of you that read last weeks newsletter will know that there is a Game Processing Workshops happening on the farm this week - the first session is today!
I am heartbroken that I can't make it to the farm for these workshops - I also don't fit the eligibility criteria, these sessions are for children and parents (apparently 24 doesn't count as a child). But you'll hear more about how they went in next weeks newsletter!
The week will then close off with another Broiler Chickens and Goose processing session as we stock up the farm-shop for the Christmas Holiday.
