Wild Minds Weekly: The Most Important Skill to Master

Hello friends,

Building the life you want is not easy.

You’ll face enormous uncertainty, resistance, both internal and from the people around you, and you’ll find yourself wondering “Why am I doing this?” when things don’t go as well as you hoped (it helps to have a good answer).

Thats why this is the most important skill you can master:

Thinking BIG, Executing small.

What does that mean?

Most people don’t think big enough. They see the risks as too big, and the opportunities too small so they never take the leap.

Or maybe they thought big at one point, they had a dream. Then over time, as life gets busier, they get stuck in the weeds of the day-to-day (executing small) focusing only on what’s directly in front of them and losing sight of the big picture - what they wanted in the first place.

On the other side, some think big, but fail to get there because they neglect the small things that drive progress and the sheer size of what they’re trying to achieve overwhelms them. They give up when they don’t gain any initial traction (it’s possible I’m guilty of this).

It’s easy to think big, but try and execute big right off the bat? Doesn’t happen.

You have to do both (as I have to constantly remind myself).

By all means start off with something small, but if you want to build something great, you can’t be afraid to think big. Thinking big is what directs you, executing small is what gets you there.

As a great example, we use Kajabi to host our website and all of our resources (I’m using it to send you this newsletter). Creators on Kajabi have made over $5 billion since its birth. But how did it start?

With a guy making a PVC toy for his son.

Back in 2010, Kenny Rueter made a toy for his son out of PVC piping, and made a how-to video showing others how to do it. But he couldn’t monetise it, so he built the first version of Kajabi to solve his own problem. He executed small. Fifteen years later, the platform is now worth over $2 billion.

Thinking big in your case probably looks very different to that, but the principle is the same.

You can’t build your dream community holistic farm retreat without first doing the small things - writing your first email to a land-owner or planting your first seed in your market garden.

And equally, you need to think big to have a vision that others will believe in.

Act on the small details with urgency, but keep your eye on your vision with patience.

To your freedom and independence,

Rob (find me on X)
