Wild Minds Weekly: Conspiracy theories
Hello beautiful people,
You've probably been called a conspiracy theorist at least once in your life.
Maybe that's a good thing.
The label âconspiracy theoristâ is used to discredit and belittle anyone questioning the mainstream narrative.
What does that actually mean? What is a conspiracy theory?
While thereâs loads of ways to define it, the key concept is that itâs an explanation for certain circumstances that revolves around the secret planning of a powerful group of people.
So basically if youâre skeptical that large groups of powerful people are acting to further their own interests rather than yours, you could fall into the category of âconspiracy theoristâ.
It is true that not all of yesterdayâs conspiracies become todayâs factsâŚ
and some of them are pretty out thereâŚ
(I personally believe the Earth is round and that itâs unlikely that there is a class of lizard people that rule the planet)
But imagine thinking that powerful groups didnât conspire to further their own agendas.
Is that realistic?
It would almost be naive to think that they donât.
There are plenty of cases of ideas that were discarded as conspiracy theories and later turned out to be true (MK-Ultra, The Fluorescent Particle Trials)
So secretive government agencies ran harmful projects in the past, dismissed them as conspiracy theories, and weâre supposed to believe that they just donât anymore. That doesnât seem very reasonable does it?
If a healthy dose of skepticism makes you a conspiracy theorist, then by all means, be one.
To your freedom and independence,
Rob
